Flatbed The trailer is commonly used to transfer materials that pass the regulations regarding load height. One of the advantages of a flatbed over the other kinds of trailer is that it has a continuous and spacious deck. The usual length of the flatbed is 48 feet (also come in 53 feet) while the width is 102 inches. The total height of the trailer is around 60 inches to 62 inches. The freight’s maximum height is 8 feet and four inches. Maximum load capacity without permits is 48,000 pounds. |

Step Deck This trailer is also known as a “singledrop” or “dropdeck” trailer. They are used too haul many of the same types of freight as a flatbed trailer. The main advantage is that this trailer can haul a higher load without having too buy permits. Standard lengths are 48 feet but are available in 53 feet. The upper deck of a this trailer is usually 10 feet or 11 feet in length. The lower deck on a 48 foot trailer would either be 37 feet or 38 feet in length. The typical stepdeck trailer is 39 inches too 40 inches high at the rear. Maximum load capacity is 44,000 too 45,000 pounds. |

Dry Van This trailer is also known as a “van” or “box trailer”. They are used for the transport of freight that must be kept dry. The standard lengths of these vans are 48 feet and 53 feet. Some are available with swing doors and some with roll up doors. Most trailers are 102 inches wide and 102 inches in height. Maximum load capacity is 44,000 too 45,000 pounds. |
